La Mezcla presents Pachuquismo, an all-female Tap and Son Jarocho performance of Chicanx culture, Pachucas and the Zoot Suit Riots. Featuring Chicana poly-rhythms, live music, and video, this work explores the role of the Pachuca in the 1940’s and examining systemic racism and the struggles communities of color continue to face today. Choreography and Direction by Vanessa Sanchez.
Performers include Alisa Guardiola, Caroline Chung, Elena de la Troya, Emmeline Gonzalez-Beban, Maria Anaya, Monica Fimbrez, Sandy Vasquez and Vanessa Sanchez.

“Pachuquismo, mixing Son Jarocho and Tap Dance with soulful Mexican musical rhythms, Bruja reinvents and regains the Latina-Xicana Power.
“Bruja” is a theater performance showcasing and empowering Xicanas and Latina women of the Bay Area through rhythm, music, and dance. An exploration of the history of the Xicana experience through non-stereotypical artistic expression with a cultural and historical context spanning from the 1940’s (early Xicana history) through today.
